You may have forgotten how your first idea arrived, how it showed up on your doorstep in ratty bluejeans and a ketchup stained t-shirt. You may have forgotten how you took it in and fed it and provided it with a hot shower, a set of clean clothes, and a place to sleep. You may not remember all the time you spent with it, teaching it to speak properly and showing it how to behave in mixed company.
Our Memories Can Fail Us
No, you remember it another way. In your mind, the idea arrived in formal attire, impeccably groomed, and ready for an evening of wine and dance.
And now, you are looking at this new idea with more than a little disgust. Why, you ask, can’t it be more like the other idea? Now, that was an idea! That was an idea that knew how to act. That was an idea that knew what it was and where it was going. But this new one? Pfffft.
But you’ve forgotten. That’s all.
Think hard. You’ll remember. That first idea was a mess too. It was you who turned it around. It was you who groomed it and prepared it for its entry into society. And it’s you who can do it again.
So, have pity on this new idea. Give it a break and show it some kindness. Invite it in, get to know it, teach it what you know, that is, now that you remember.

I am so glad I found your site and newsletter through a friend on facebook – it was definitley needed today of all days! I have been dealing with elderly parents (one of whom was recently hospitalized). I am out of state, and teh only child, so wokring my job, driving up (3 hours) every other week to try and get paperwork settled for teh next step – assisted living, and running my own crafts business has gotten a bit out of control for me. As you say, we feel we have to do everything – all at once, and right now. Well today, I was able to leave work early and came home and took a LONG and much-needed nap and am reassessing what truly needs done right now – which is not much other than enjoy my 2 cats and relax for the evening – I can still do my market on Saturday and its okay if I don’t have a bevy of new stock that I had planned to make this week. thanks so much and I look forward to receiving your newsletter! Amy
