Just got back from a lovely vacation and I’m going through a small case of what I’d call post departum depression, that odd little touch of the blues you get when you return home from a trip.
So while I get my groove back, I thought I’d share some of my vacation pictures, drawings I made while traveling to and through Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Darwin
Drew this one from an image of Charles Darwin in Discover magazine while on the plane flying to Santa Fe.
I screwed his nose up, but I was really happy with the eyes.
Fireplace
Drawing in my sister-in-law’s living room, I began to play with the markers I bought thinking they were ink pens. You can see the ghostly image of my next drawing in the background.

Ghost Lady
The ghost from the previous drawing revealed. Another drawing from an image in a magazine. Really liked the way the hair turned out. Let’s proceed, shall we?

Lamp
Another one from the living room. Drew the wrought iron on the screen door too small, but liked the lamp. Now, let’s go outdoors.

Stucco Land
Drew this one in the parking lot of a shopping plaza while waiting for the book store to open. Love the buildings in Santa Fe. For whatever reason, this one is my favorite from the trip.

Spur Trail
This is an image from my favorite running trail in Santa Fe, the Spur Trail. Given all the food we ate, it’s a good thing I ran every day. Had fun working with color on this one.

Pear Tree
A pear tree outside my favorite coffee shop in Santa Fe, the Lucky Bean.

Train Station
Took the Rail Runner into Albuquerque on Saturday. This is an image from their unbelievably beautiful train station.

Kiva
Had to climb four ladders to get this image. During the highlight of our trip, we took a hike through Bandelier National State Park and walked amid the ruins of a Pueblo village. The drawing is of a kiva, an underground chamber used for rituals, ceremonies, and political meetings. My drawing, unfortunately, doesn’t do it justice.
Wish You Could Have Been There
So, those are my vacation pictures. Hope you enjoyed them. I’ll soon resume my regularly scheduled postings. Thanks.

Lovely! Your drawings are progressing, and it’s so great to see. I love the pear tree, and I enjoy seeing them so much. Keep sharing.
Good job, bro! I like the Spur Trail ( been there), the pear tree and Darwin. I am sorry that my son left Santa Fe and I no longer get to visit there. For us East Coasters, the adobe and the desert are wonderful new experiences. Your sketches brought back lots of memories.
Lovely drawings. I especially like the one of the train station.
And I totally get the post departum depression thing. I start feeling blue the second I step on the plane.
Lovely. And I believe you’re drawing is maturing. Thanks for sharing.
Knew it was Darwin as soon as I saw the sketch. Well done!
“Post departum depression” is a gem. Thank you.
Steve
They are awesome. You are inspiring me! Once I get the PhD submitted -oh so close now- I’m drawing and painting my life in Central Australia (kinda like New Mexico).
Thank you for sharing with us.
