M usic triggers memories. Everyone knows a familiar song can bring back the past, but the real surprise is when a song you’ve never heard before does the very same thing.
For me, Passenger Seat by Death Cab for Cutie, does it in spades. It takes me on a dozen different car rides in under five minutes.
A car ride with my father when I was a boy. Another with my daughter on the way home from school. A trip with my son to watch the Rams when they were still winning. The ones I took that summer when my friend Larry and I had nowhere to go and all day to sing along with the radio, long before he passed away.
Those are good things to remember.
