“I began to realize how simple life could be if one had a regular routine to follow with fixed hours, a fixed salary, and very little original thinking to do.” Roald Dahl

Do you really want things to be easy? If not, what would you like them to be?

Think, draw, write.

Me too. Now all we have to do is define it.

I love what I do but it can be stressful and I often feel the pain of “burnout”. Sometimes I feel a huge burden to “fix” the special needs of the kids I work with. The thought of pushing a button in a factory all day occasionally sounds appealing. Father Savior talked last week at Mass about using the gifts and talents God gave us. I am trying to think of it that way. Then I get frustrated and think, God why didn’t you give me the talent to sit down everyday and just write my heart out. Sorry, I digress…

It’s not so much the easy that bothers me. You can be very good at your job and therefore the work is easy and enjoyable. For example, if someone wanted to pay me lots of dough to sit around and knit all day, that would be cool with me! What I hate is stagnation. If I had to knit the same thing day after day after day, I would lose my mind.

I think you just hit upon what I mean when I say easy. Knitting the same thing day after day would be quite doable, but not very challenging: simple, easy, and boring as hell. And that’s hard to live with. Easy is hard.
