The One Gift that Keeps on Giving

by Ken on March 1, 2010

Your best is the best gift you can ever give.

What will you leave behind? What will be your legacy?

Will it be that you played it safe, that you did the things you knew you couldn’t fail at? Or will you leave this world knowing that you gave it your best?

What’s the harm in failing? Are you afraid the world will point at your blunders and mock you?

The only people who have time for that are the ones who aren’t risking anything. Don’t let your philosophy become, “If you can’t wow them, join them.”

Wow yourself with your persistence. Wow your spouse, your kids, and your friends with your willingness to fail. Leave behind a legacy of valiant efforts.

Aim for a target you care about. You’re probably going to miss your mark. Aim anyway. Close counts in life. Don’t let anyone tell you different.

The things you count as failures might be the very things people remember most about you and love most about you.

These are the things that will extend your impact long after your days have ended: trying despite the risk of failure, loving despite the chance of being hurt, giving despite the possibility of having your offer rejected.

The gifts you leave behind won’t just include your successes. They will include all your efforts and the messages they send.

Give the one gift that keeps on giving. Give your best.

Thanks, Connie. You know, of course, you’re the whole reason I’ve added more color to my life and my blog.
