Not much of a dancer? Even so, I bet you’ve done the following. A song started playing and you started moving. You snapped your fingers, you tapped your foot, you swayed a little.
Why? Was it because you liked the beat or the riff or the melody? For whatever reason, the music moved you and you let it.
And here’s something I bet you didn’t do. I bet you didn’t say, “Oh, I can’t dance to this. Someone’s already danced to it.”
Of course you didn’t. That would be silly. Well, it’s just as silly for anything other than dancing.
No two dancers move to the music in the exact same way. And no matter how many people have done what you hope to do, none of them did it in the exact same way you will.
So even if the dance floor seems a little crowded, if you find something that moves you, let it. Then get out there and show them what you’ve got.

Hi, Ken! You have such a way of getting right to the heart. It’s so easy to get caught up in the trap of thinking that someone else, somewhere, must be better or more worthy–so we might as well not try. That person, however, can never be US. Our personal viewpoint will always been just a bit different. That’s worth sharing with the world!

Agreed. Maybe instead of competing, we should focus on participating and contributing.
“I bet you didn’t say, “Oh, I can’t dance to this. Someone’s already danced to it.””
I love how you come up with these sentences that just cut right to the heart of the matter Ken. Makes it seem such a ridiculous thing to think, that every song can only be danced to once, and totally makes your point.
The crowded dancefloor analogy is excellent too. Often it’s a mass of bodies just sort of bobbing about vaguely in time. What the dancefloor needs is someone to go in with a new rhythm, new moves, a new style.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Dan

Thanks, Dan.
You’ve got some pretty good dance moves of your own.
