Has Your Routine Become a Rut?

Are you bound by your routine?Have you ever said this? I’ll quit when it’s no longer fun.

In some instances, it could be a good rule to live by.

For example, you’ve spent umpteen years in your line of work and you’re bored. It no longer challenges you and you’ve lost your motivation to do your best. It could be time to move on.

But maybe it’s not the work.

Maybe it’s the way you’re doing it, which is the same old way you’ve always done it.

Whether it’s our careers, our art, our hobbies, or even our relationships, things can get pretty stale when we approach them in the same way day after day.

We show up at the same time, begin the same way, walk through the same steps, and wrap things up the way we have for as long as we can remember. Then we wonder why things aren’t so interesting anymore.

Forgive me for suggesting this, but maybe we’re not so interesting anymore. Sometimes, when we strive to make things safe and predictable, we sadly succeed.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that last statement….’Sometimes, when we strive to make things safe and predictable, we sadly succeed.’ I think that that is so true…and in doing so, we settle into a rut of predictable routines and then suddenly we open our eyes and think, ‘Wait a minute…this is feeling boring and monotonous….I want more.’

I know that that’s how I feel from time to time…then I remember, ‘Oh yeah, I’m supposed to shake things up a bit!’ Thanks for reminding us, Ken, that things are NOT supposed to stay the same…glad you’re paying attention! ;-)
