You and I may never be as rich, or as famous, or as brilliant as we hope to be. So, we might as well be prolific.
We may never win a race, but we can still log a ton of miles and see some amazing things along the way.
We may never reach the bestsellers’ list, but we can write a slew of stories and poems and have a lot of fun playing with thousands of words, creating a world filled with fascinating characters, and weaving dozens of crazy tales.
We may never play at Carnegie Hall, but we can still explore and create an entire encyclopedia of songs.
We may never win a Tony, but we can perform on a hundred small stages for those who might never get to Broadway.
And our art may never be on exhibit at the Guggenheim, but we’re always free to paper the walls with our work if we choose.
If we do the work of being prolific, when we come to the end of our lives, we will have created a vast body of work. Some of it may make us wince with embarrassment (even though it shouldn’t). But some of it will also make us weep with joy at having made it.
I can’t think of a better use of our time. Can you?

I’m so glad I was pointed in your direction. It seems everything you post touches me in one way or another. First, thank you for that. Second, every time someone ever used the word “prolific” in describing me (and it’s been said often), it seemed as if they were trying to find a nice way to say “you’re just so–too much” I find I am always trying to cut my words from paragraphs to snippets in order not to bore. But, even though a snippet may carry a piece of me, without some of the words I’ve left out, a few cannot always carry all of me.
Maybe your theme song should be “All of Me”, Delanie.
Very inspiring! Thanks
