Right now, the gods are not cooperating. Life is not preparing the straight path I hoped for and half expected.
Some people are not behaving the way I wish they would, things I’m sure I never ordered keep arriving at my doorstep, and it’s occurred to me that this is the way it’s always going to be. That’s why I’m writing this post.
I’m writing it even though I’m void of ideas. I’m writing it even though I have no idea what I’m going to write about tomorrow. I’m writing it even though no one would notice if I didn’t.
I’m doing so because I know a few things. I know that if I get back into the swing of things, I will find the ideas I’m lacking. I know that if I can write something today, I can find a way to write something tomorrow. I know that if I don’t, I’ll notice.
And I’m beginning to realize that the gods won’t be any more cooperative in the near future than they’ve been in the recent past. They’re willing to wait me out, but I’m no longer willing to play their game.
See ya tomorrow.

Hi Ken!
And oh-my-god am I glad you keep writing like this! You are truly a god-sent gift to creative persons who like to follow your writings and keep getting inspired by you.
Thanks, kari. You folks inspire me as well.
This post is as valid as any other post because it highlights the reality of creativity and living and writing about a creative life. Keep writing through it. Your stuff is very inspiring!

Keep writing. There are lots of us looking forward to your posts.
Hi Ken! I’m glad you wrote this, too. We get out of sorts after getting off track from being sick, being busy, normal life. I love reading your posts and am thankful for you. Have a fabulous day!
Hi, Ken
I’ll notice. You and Barbara Winter and Seth Godin and a coaching friend are at the top of my RSS feed.
Love the way you share “inside the studio” experiences, and even thought about your openness when writing a recent blog post about untangling my backwards writing.
Regarding those gods: I clicked a link in my bookmarks a couple days back to a separate blog site I set up for posts on a specific topic. I haven’t added to it since I finished the year-long series several months ago. It took a while for the site to come up, even thought other sites were coming up quickly.
Then I remembered the internet servers have to learn where a site is, and if it’s dormant they might forget. It’s “propagation” and I hardly understand any of it, except that when the site is active it’s easier for servers to find.
As your mind gets back to writing, the creativity internet will remember where your server is and start pinging thoughts and paradoxes and dilemmas your way to spark your mind. I’m looking forward to it!
Best Regards,
Steve

Thanks, Steve. I think you already know this blog’s existence owes much to your early support.
No one would notice???? Are you nuts???? While I was in Nashville, two friends who are now reading your stuff daily told me how much they appreciated the link I had sent them. You are inspiring lots of people even when (or maybe especially when) you are not inspired cuz you bother to write about it.
And by the by, I’ve been stuck on the couch for almost 4 weeks now – I don’t want to hear any whining, bro! Luv ya!
this is your most inspiring post so far
See ya tomorrow

Clearly people would notice. And the gods are always on your side, it’s just not clear what that is, what the lesson, the path laid out is for you. Alan Watts talks of this in the Secret to Happiness. All his work is so inspiring for me. Anyway, your ideas aren’t lacking for the simple fact that they are your ideas. Only you have them.
Thank you for sharing them.
Peace,
@dedlen
Ken-
I just finished “The War of Art” and the thing that’s sticking with me most is the idea that when the going gets tough, the tough turn pro.
Inspiration may or may not show up. Resistance always will. The trick is to be in your chair ready to meet either one. What I appreciate about you is your commitment to showing up every day. And (when life crashes in around you) to re-commit to showing up.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
I would notice too!
I’ve only just started following you in the last couple weeks (thanks to my friend Tara Moh who blogs over at Wise Living). As a fellow creative myself, I love your candor, your passion, and your outlook. You’re definitely becoming one of my favorite bloggers.
So keep on truckin’, Ken! The gods eventually show up. They’re just some surly sons of bitches, and won’t show up until we do.
best,
David
I love this post! It’s something I’m working on now- to write even if I don’t think I have anything to say. Just write anyway. Sometimes it’s on my blog, sometimes it’s in my journal, sometimes I just type away in a blank Word doc. Good for you for posting here anyway. I may have to try this practice on my own blog.
Hi, Sherri.
It is, I’m finding, a decision you have to make again and again. It’s not something you decide to do one day. It’s something you have to decide every day to do every day.
This week it seems like nobody’s on my side. Well, nobody who wants me to create anything. I make such lofty goals I just know I can accomplish, then POW! Reality (and a cold) sets in. I think my body is telling me something–like “You’re not a superheroine, so REST!” Maybe this time I’ll take its advice.
