I think Weber was right. The art that moves us most, whether we’re admiring or creating it, is the art that reaches in and gently lays a finger on our heart somehow.
It doesn’t tower over us. It has no need to shout at us. It isn’t out to compete with us. It simply finds a way to connect with us.
It raises a small question, evokes some human emotion, or triggers a special memory we almost forgot we tucked away one day.
Such connections are made through attention to the intimate details. That’s how almost anything can be raised to the level of art, and how anyone, in their own way, can become an artist.
Be an artist today, and be a great one. All you have to do is pay attention to the intimate details.

Thank you for this. When self-doubt strikes I often wonder if I’m not doing something big enough, grand enough, shocking enough, important enough. I love what I’m painting right now, and that should be worth a lot.
If you love it, Lesley, I’d say it’s worth just about everything.
So true! I have been prioritizing my writing projects lately, and realized that those most meaningful to me & my family are about matters of the heart.
Life is definitely art when we notice small details about our loved ones!

I agree, Anne. In fact, I’ve always thought that a loved one’s tiny flaws are some of the most memorable and endearing things about them.
Yes, living is art. You can “make art” with your partner.
The best way to notice the art in life for me is to make sure I feel my body no matter what I do. On a good day, I can wash dishes like this and feel as great as performing a good show.
Cheers!

I’ve experienced precisely the same thing, Samuel, but sometimes I forget such experiences are readily available.
